James C. Milton is an experienced trial and appellate attorney in the Tulsa office of Doerner, Saunders, Daniel & Anderson, L.L.P. Having attended the National Institute of Trial Advocacy's National Session in 2000, Mr. Milton has logged many hours in the courtroom as a first-chair litigator.
As a former banker, Mr. Milton has devoted much of his time to commercial disputes, including breach of contract actions, commercial collections, and commercial fraud actions. With his financial background, Mr. Milton is also well-suited to both manage and handle trust and estate disputes, consumer credit issues, and the like. Mr. Milton has developed substantial expertise in representing trustees in disputes regarding the administration of trusts.
Mr. Milton has also developed a rather unique area of practice defending developers and municipal utility authorities against claims asserted by rural water districts. He is counsel of record in a number of reported decisions on the issue. In addition, Mr. Milton was a member of the Oklahoma Municipal League, Inc.'s Rural Water Issues Task Force and, in 1999 and 2000, served as principal drafter of proposed legislation and chaired the Task Force's negotiation team.
With a combination of business and banking background, a degree in finance and economics, and a decade of legal representation of municipalities, Mr. Milton is well positioned to advise municipal corporations on bond financing, loans, and grants. Mr. Milton is an associate member of the Oklahoma Association of Municipal Attorneys, Inc.
Mr. Milton has used his experience to teach lawyers and industry professionals. Since 1998, Mr. Milton has served as speaker, moderator, or panelist for 23 continuing legal education seminars, each approved by the Oklahoma Bar Association for continuing education credit. Many of these seminars were also approved for continuing education for other professionals, such as insurers, bankers, and accountants.
Mr. Milton devotes substantial time to volunteer work in the community. A graduate of Leadership Tulsa in 2004, Mr. Milton currently serves as President of Lee Elementary Foundation, Inc., a non-profit 501(c)(3) organization benefiting Lee Elementary School. - http://leefoundationtulsa.org. Mr. Milton recently completed two years of service as Council President of Fellowship Lutheran Church . He is also a member of the Evangelical Lutheran Church Association Attorney Association (ELCAAA).
In 1995, Mr. Milton graduated, with honors, from The University of Texas School of Law. While in law school, he served as Executive Editor of the Texas Law Review. Mr. Milton holds a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration with majors in finance and economics.
