Doerner has a long practice of giving back to the community through pro bono work and generous support for many causes and aids. We believe that we have a professional responsibility to contribute time, skills and other resources to provide necessary legal services to members of the public who could not otherwise afford them. Our lawyers and staff pride themselves on providing the highest quality legal services to all of our clients, both billable and non-billable. Pro bono work at Doerner Saunders not only satisfies our ethical obligation to help those in need, but is part of what makes our lawyers strong leaders in our practices and in our communities
Our pro bono program permits every lawyer to represent need-based clients who qualify for our services. In addition to the time and skills of our volunteer lawyers, the firm makes annual financial contributions to organizations that provide additional legal services to persons of limited means. Doerner Saunders lawyers obtain pro bono work from a variety of sources. In many cases, pro bono assignments are referred to us by some of the many legal service organizations in the community such as The Legal Aid Society. Other pro bono projects grow out of interests that our lawyers pursue outside of the firm.
We encourage our lawyers to become involved in pro bono projects early in their careers with the same unwavering dedication, commitment to hard work and legal excellence that they bring to all matters handled by the firm. Also, we support our lawyers who volunteer for pro bono work that falls outside of their particular practice areas. In all instances, our lawyers are encouraged to present proposals for pro bono engagements to the firm’s Executive Committee. Once an engagement is approved, it is handled as is any matter, with the dedication of all available firm resources appropriate to the needs of the representation.
Doerner believes that by serving the less advantaged, lawyers can make a difference in the greater community.
