The Employer’s Legal Resource: Update-New Oklahoma Worker’s Compensation Act Faces Challenge

Last month we told you about the passage of the Oklahoma Administrative Workers’ Compensation Act and some of the coming changes. The Administrative Act was set to go into effect on February 1, 2014. However, a group of lawmakers and a state firefighters’ union have filed a challenge to the law before the Oklahoma Supreme Court. The group alleges the Administrative Act is unconstitutional, in part, because it discriminates against certain classes of employees. The challenge will be heard by the Supreme Court in October. We will keep you updated regarding the status of the challenge and any resulting changes to the Oklahoma workers’ compensation system.
