Given the recent surge in COVID-19 cases attributable to the highly transmissible Delta variant, the CDC has updated its guidance to recommend that even fully vaccinated persons wear masks indoors if they are in an area of substantial or high transmission. You can find the interactive map to see which areas that includes here. Right now, that definition applies to about two-thirds of the country and nearly every county in Oklahoma.
The CDC continues to recommend that those with a weakened immune system or those who are at an increased risk for severe COVID-19 illness (and those who live with someone for whom either applies) may want to wear a mask regardless of the level of local transmission.
Employers should consider this updated guidance as they evaluate plans for employees to return to the office (and protocol for when they get there). As with all things COVID-19, we can continue to expect changes.
