DSDA Mourns Sam P. Daniel

Doerner is deeply saddened by the recent loss of Sam P. Daniel, beloved partner of the firm for the past 54 years. Sam will be greatly missed by the Doerner family and everyone who knew him.

Samuel Field Phillips Daniel, Jr. was born in Tulsa, Oklahoma, December 20, 1932, to Mary and Sam P. Daniel, Sr. He passed quietly from this life, surrounded by his family, on Sunday, July 14, 2019.

He loved the law and had practiced for 60 years. He was best known for his business litigation and for his work in the field of family law. He was an adjunct professor at the University of Tulsa, loved discussing the law and mentoring young lawyers was one of his favorite pastimes. He was a fellow of the American College of Trial Lawyers, past president of the Tulsa Bar, and a member of the American Academy of Matrimonial Lawyers. He was a Captain in the United States Air Force. He was actively involved with NatureWorks, The Nature Conservancy, Sutton Avian Research Center, Woolaroc Museum and the Tulsa Ballet. He was honored as the 24th recipient of the NatureWorks Wildlife Stewardship Award. The monument, a mother coyote and her babies, is at the East entrance to the city of Jenks.

He was an avid sportsman. He enjoyed a game of golf but he loved to fish and hunt. His bird collection is at Woolaroc Museum along with the book he wrote about the birds for his grandchildren. He loved to fish and made sure that everyone in the family shared that passion, as soon as they could hold a rod. Spending time with his family and friends, he loved to travel and was always planning the next adventure.

Sam is survived by his wife Mary Lou, 3 sons, 2 stepdaughters, 8 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren. Ted and Lisa Daniel of Dallas, TX., Stephanie and Scott Herlihy and daughter Riley, of Dallas, TX., Lauren and Matthew Fritts and son Hudson of New York, N.Y. John and Liz Daniel, William Daniel and Katie Zanovitch of Houston, TX, and Sam Daniel III of Tulsa. Stepdaughters Laurie Rowe, husband Charles and daughter Alexandra Rains of Great Falls, VA and Shana and David Darby, Caroline Briggs, and Avery and Owen Darby of Tulsa.
