Before joining Doerner, John was senior counsel for a diversified publicly traded energy company, where he managed high-value purchase and sale agreements for acquisitions and divestitures, as well as drilling rigs, equipment and real estate matters. He drafted and negotiated other critical industry contracts, including drilling contracts, master service agreements, joint development agreements, farmouts, acreage trades, non-disclosure agreements, gas purchase/gathering agreements, surface use and mineral leases. John’s ability to structure agreements that mitigate risk and maximize value positioned him as a trusted advisor on litigation strategy, regulatory compliance, and dispute resolution – helping clients achieve business objectives with confidence and clarity.
- Negotiated and closed purchase and sale agreements totaling over $360 million for a publicly traded company’s exploration and production subsidiary.
- Negotiated and closed for a publicly traded company’s drilling contractor subsidiary master drilling contracts with multiple operators, rig sales, yard leases and sales.
- Oversaw all legacy environmental litigation in Louisiana; prepared company representatives for deposition; managed external counsel and coordinated discovery, settlements, site remediation and closure.
- Extensive experience in litigation, appeals and arbitration; recognized the client’s risk tolerance and advised them on risk mitigation and allocation.
